A new number one in the overall ratings game and a new show debuting at third spot.

These are the stories that colored the long weekend, which extended until Monday (August 27) in accordance with the advance celebration of National Heroes’ Day.

ABS-CBN’s Boy & Kris finally showed its muscle last Friday, August 24, by gathering a strong 13.7 percent rating compared to the 12.6 percent showing registered by GMA-7’s SIS. This is according to the overnight ratings conducted by AGB Nielsen Philippines among Mega Manila households.

Edu Manzano’s Kapamilya Game KNB? once more dominated its timeslot by trampling counterpart Takeshi’s Castle in runaway fashion. Game KNB? collected a 22.1 percent rating while Takeshi’s only managed to come up with a 13.5 percent performance.

Controversial ABS-CBN noontime show Wowowee, which was recently accused of altering game results, overtook the lead against stiff rival Eat Bulaga! last Friday by notching a 20.9 percent rating against the latter’s 20.3 percent mark.

In the primetime slot, Marimar grabbed the top spot again with its impressive 33.1 percent rating, closely followed by Kokey with 32.2 percent rating. Meanwhile, Impostora continues to shine with an impressive 31.9 percent rating while Kris Aquino’s Kapamilya Deal or No Deal followed with 25.4 percent.

Charo Santos’s longtime running drama anthology, Maalaala Mo Kaya, in the, meantime clobbered Bubble Gang by posting a 20.5 percent rating against the 17.1 percent registered by its competitor.

Last Saturday, August 25, saw Edu Manzano’s new game show, 1 vs. 100, debuting impressively at number three overall with 27.3 percent rating.

Paolo Bediones’s Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok, on the other hand, reigned the next day, August 26, with a 27.5 percent rating while Bong Revilla’s Kap’s Amazing Stories trailed behind with a 27.0 percent clip.

Earlier that day, SOP‘s 18.8 percent beat ASAP ’07‘s 14.5 percent rating. SOP‘s strong showing could be attributed to Michelle Van Eimeren’s surprise phone patch on-air conversation with ex-husband Ogie Alcasid’s current girlfriend, Regine Velasquez.

GMA-7’s showbiz talk show Showbiz Central beat ABS-CBN’s The Buzz for the second time in a row. Showbiz Central posted a 19.1 rating aganist The Buzz‘s 17.0 percent.

In the comedy sitcom department, Vic Sotto’s Full Haus took Aga Muhlach to school with a 16.5 percent rating against Aga’s That’s My Doc‘s, which got 13.2 percent.

Shifty and unpredictable.

These two words describe best the continuing ratings game during the past three days, with Marimar as the consistent top placer among the primetime shows.

Tuesday, August 21, saw Iza Calzado and Sunshine Dizon’s Impostora climbing to the number two spot overall with a 31.7 percent rating versus Deal or No Deal’s 26.6 percent—a huge contrast to its 32.8 percent showing last August 20 when Angel Locsin was the celebrity contestant.

Impostora relinquished its post though the following day, August 22, to GMA-7’s news program 24 Oras which gathered a strong 33.2 percent rating, second only to perennial first placer Marimar‘s 34.1 percent.

The stiff competition between Kokey and Mga Mata ni Anghelita entered a new twist as ABS-CBN’s fantaserye grabbed the lead with a narrow 31.6 percent while Anghelita trailed behind with a 31.5 percent rating last Tuesday. The noontime show trend carried on until Wednesday, August 22, with Willie Revillame’s show once more taking the lead with a 20.5 percent clip while Eat Bulaga! registered a 20.3 percent rating.

It was an entirely different story last Thursday, August 23, as Eat Bulaga! once more took the driver’s seat through its 23.1 percent rating followed by Wowowee‘s 20.9 percent.

In the battle of daily morning talk shows, ABS-CBN’s Boy & Kris edged out GMA-7’s SIS last Tuesday (13.1 percent vs. 12.5 percent) and Wednesday (12.8 percent vs. 11.9 percent). But last Thursday, SIS got the upperhand with 13.3 percent against Boy & Kris‘ 12.6 percent.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN’s daily morning game show, Kapamilya Game KNB? dominated its timeslot from Tuesday to Thursday, clobbering GMA-7’s Takeshi’s Castle.

marian rivera not fit for marimar? i did think so but now i don’t think so

i’ve recently heart, yet again, another tabloid columnist questioning marian rivera’s capability and star power to bring marimar to a constant success in terms of tv ratings.

1.   SHE LOOKS TOO SPINTERISH.  i also thought so. oh the power of packaging. she doesn’t look so now.

scandal in old seoul…what i think about it and the ending (spoilers)

scandal in old seoul a.k.a. capital scandal in seoul kicked off with a good start, historic 1920s set, conflict between japanese invasion and korean liberation and traditional and modern seoul.

the first few episodes were funny. i loved kang ji hwan. the middle part dragged. and han ji min and kang ji hwan proved to have no chemistry, in my opinion.

anyway, if one person was commendable, it was the actress that played cha song ju. she was sleek and cool. and her acting was pedigreed.

oh for the ending…

aug 17 -20, 2007 agb ratings…abs-cbn vs. gma

(source: philippine entertainment portal)

LONG-WEEKEND RATINGS: Angel Locsin is still a crowd-drawer, but “Marimar” remains on top

Michael Ancheta

New Kapamilya star Angel Locsin’s presence in ASAP ’07 and Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal help propel these ABS-CBN shows to the top in their timeslots.

Angel’s grand welcome in ASAP ’07 last Sunday, August 19, posted a rating of 20.6 percent while its rival, GMA-7’s SOP, got 17.0 percent rating. This is according to the overnight ratings conducted by AGB Nielsen Philippines among Metro Manila households.

On the following day, August 20, Angel was the celebrity contestant in Kris Aquino’s game show, Deal Or No Deal, and it got a high 32.8 percent rating. That figure was the highest for any Kapamilya show that day. Angel’s guesting in Deal Or No Deal went up against Kapuso telenovela Impostora, which posted 30.0 percent.

Many were expecting that Angel’s apperance in Kris’s game show would pit her directly against Marian Rivera’s Marimar on GMA-7. But since Lupin ended last Friday, its original timeslot was taken over by Marimar, which is now pitted against Judy Ann Santos’s Ysabella. The role of Marimar was first offered to Angel, but the former Kapuso star declined.

Deal or No Deal‘s may be ABS-CBN’s highest rater last night, but it still fell short of toppling the consistent top-rater Marimar, which posted a rating of 33.1 percent. Marimar even posted a higher rating last Friday, August 17, with a remarkable 38.1 percent.

Although Kokey, ABS-CBN’s fantaserye, managed to topple GMA-7’s Mga Mata ni Anghelita last week, the latter fought back last night, August 20. Anghelita posted a 31.1 percent rating while Kokey got 29.8 percent. Last Friday, August 17, Kokey was on top with 33.9 percent against Anghelita‘s 32.2 percent.

Meanwhile, Lupin‘s finale, posted the second highest number last Friday with 37.6 percent rating.

In the battle of showbiz talk shows last Saturday, August 18, GMA-7’s Startalk pounced its rival, newbie Entertainment Live of ABS-CBN. The 11-year-old Startalk got a steady 19.6 rating against three-week-old Entertainment Live, which got a 15.4 percent rating.

In the Sunday showbiz talks shows, Showbiz Central of the Kapuso network narrowly beat ABS-CBN’s The Buzz by mere 0.1 percent. Showbiz Central got 15.5 percent while The Buzz got 15.4 percent.

Michael V’s Bitoy’s Funniest Videos (GMA-7), which celebrated its third anniversary, emerged as the overall top-rater last Saturday, August 18, with a very strong 37.1 percent.

Last Sunday, August 19, GMA-7’s game show Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok was the day’s highest rater with 27.1 percent. Bong Revilla’s new Kapuso show, Kap’s Amazing Stories, also debuted well with 27.0 percent rating.

Meanwhile, GMA-7’s morning talk show SiS benefitted a great deal last stormy Friday as it posted a commanding 20.9 percent rating against the 12.8 rating registered by ABS-CBN’s Boy & Kris. It is important to take note that achieving at least a 20 rating is a rare occurrence for morning shows due mainly to low audience turnout during those hours.

In the daily noontime programs, Eat Bulaga! continues to dominate the competition and even landing on the Top 10 programs last Friday, Saturday, and Monday.

The following are the top programs from Friday to Monday:

August 17 (Friday):

1. Marimar (GMA-7) – 38.1%

angel locsin on richard gutierrez, oyo boy sotto, luis manzano & piolo pascual

(source: philippine entertainment portal)

RICHARD GUTIERREZ.

Kasi magkasama kami, we’re partners, parang ganun. Kapalagayang-loob kami at ngayon, honestly, kung anuman ang gawin ni Richard susuporta pa rin ako sa kanya kasi mabait siyang tao at naramamdaman ko ‘yon nung kaguluhang ito.”

angel locsin on her mom emma colmenares

DOLLYWOOD:  girl also cares about mom

By Dolly Anne Carvajal

08/14/2007 MANILA, Philippines — Angel Locsin told me once that she disapproved of her mother’s (Emma Colmenares) young lover because she doubted the guy’s sincerity. I’m not sure if they’re still together. Angel may be a daddy’s girl but that doesn’t mean she cares for her mom any less.

PEP EXCLUSIVE: Angel Locsin wants her parents kept out of her showbiz issues

Pilar Mateo

where do rain, song hye kyo and other k-stars live?

(source: popseoul)

this article was about korean stars displaying flags outside their homes and liberation day but to quote popseoul…

“it is interesting to see where the stars live! Rain and Ms. Song must be raking it in to live in a house in one of Korea’s most expensive neighborhoods -Samsong-dong. Similarly, Han Chae-young lives in an luxury condo in Samsong-dong. Close by in Nonhyun-dong is Kim Hee-sun and Jeon Do-yeon in Apk-jong. Perhaps this explains why I spotted her waltzing in Krispy Kremes at Apku station!”
